School of Law and Legal Studies

About Blue Sky University of Law

At Blue Sky University Law School, “international” is not just something we teach. It is something we are. An international perspective is foundational, rather than peripheral, to legal inquiry at B-SkyU’s School of Law. And this forms the basis for scholarship and action that have tangible impact in the world.B-SkyU School of Law transforms students into effective new legal practitioners who possess the knowledge, skills, and experience necessary to make an immediate and positive impact on their chosen field of law. Programs combine rigorous required courses, intense legal exercises, simulated courtroom exposure, and a variety of opportunities to broaden their skills. B-SkyU law students graduate with a deep, comprehensive, and integrated understanding of the law and its application.

The undergraduate law degree courses leading to the LLB and the sequence of subjects in Legal Studies seek to develop the capacity of students to learn on their own. This is consistent with the University’s emphasis on teaching as the creation of an environment which assists learning. Students who study law at B-SkyU will learn law, rather than be taught law. This may not always be easy – nor may it be what students expect.

Students at Blue Sky University studying in law and legal studies courses, both during their undergraduate and postgraduate degrees, will benefit from recent advances in international legal education which have influenced the design of the courses and their component subjects. They will enjoy a friendly atmosphere which can only exist in a Law School which emphasizes the study of law as a shared activity of students and staff.

The B-SkyU School of Law continually engages in an ongoing process of self examination, aiming to enhance learning opportunities by providing students with access to various other legal institutions and advanced learning systems.

Undergraduate Degree in Legal Studies

Legal Studies is an interdisciplinary approach to the study of law and society. The purpose of this multifaceted program is to explore the myriad ways in which law is connected with other disciplines pertinent to an understanding of society. As a discipline, Legal Studies is based on the assumption that “law is too important to be left to lawyers.” The critical, humanistic approach of the program encourages students to investigate and develop their attitude toward law and society within the context of a growing literature of Legal Studies and related disciplines.

Legal Studies also examines law and society from the perspective of other cultures. The department encourages study abroad to expand cross cultural understanding in an increasingly global political community.

Faculty are engaged in diverse scholarship and teaching. Research interests include: Alternative Dispute Resolution, Borders and Citizenship, Civil Liberties, Education, Immigration, Indigenous Peoples, Information Technology and Online Dispute Resolution, Legal Profession, Multinational Corporations, Palliative Care, Popular Culture, Religion.

In addition the department sustains a strong tradition in undergraduate Capstone honors research and writing. The Legal Studies Graduate Fellows program brings young scholars from multiple disciplines across campus to do collaborative research and teaching with Legal Studies faculty.
