Associate Degree

Why an Associate Degree

For many students, an Associate degree is the starting point that can help them to pursue an area of interest and acquire fundamental knowledge and skills that can help determine the direction their future will take.

At Blue Sky University, we want prospective students to feel confident in choosing a school that not only offers industry-current Associate degree programs in many of today’s most interesting fields, but also provides an unparalleled level of student support to help you get the most out of your education.

Whether your motivation for advancing your education is personal, professional or a combination of both, Blue Sky University is ready to support you every step of the way.

Associate Degree Programs

Majors that lead to two-year associate degrees provide concentrated instruction to prepare graduates for specialized occupational assignments, except for the Letters, Arts, and Sciences major, which provides graduates with a general education and some specialization in their fields of interest.

Concurrent and Sequential Majors Programs

At the baccalaureate or associate degree level, students may be approved for admission to more than one major under the Concurrent Majors program. A Concurrent Majors program is one in which students take courses to concurrently meet the requirements of at least two majors, with graduation for all majors in the program occurring during the same semester. Concurrent majors must all be at the baccalaureate or associate degree level. Under the Sequential Majors program, upon graduation from an associate or baccalaureate degree program, a student may apply for re-enrollment in another undergraduate degree program.

Reasons to Earn an Associate Degree

There are many different reasons to consider earning an associate degree. First off, an associate degree can lead to better job prospects and a higher salary. Second, an associate degree can provide the occupational training your need to enter a specific field. Other reasons for earning an associate degree:

  • Associate degree programs have reasonable tuition.
  • Credits earned in an associate degree program can be transferred to a bachelor’s degree program.
  • Employers often hire applicants who have associate degrees over applicants who have high school diplomas.
  • In only two years, you can acquire the necessary training to enter some of the fastest growing business fields.
  • Surveys show that Associate Degree graduates have greater success at university than other transfer students.
  • Work Experience is now an option for Associate Degree student. Associate Degree programs at Blue Sky University also have an optional Co-op or Internship option. Students will gain practical work experience, which may be paid or unpaid, through either a four-month Internship or two co-op work terms, available after eight courses of academic study. Associate Degrees vs. Bachelor Degrees

Many students have a hard time deciding between an associate degree and a bachelor’s degree. Although both degrees can lead to better job prospects and higher pay, there are differences between the two. Associate degrees can be earned in less time and with less money—bachelor’s degree programs typically take four years to complete.

Both degrees will also qualify you for different types of jobs. Associate degree holders are usually qualified for entry-level jobs, while bachelor degree holders can often get mid level jobs or entry-level jobs with more responsibility.

The good news is that you don’t have to decide between the two right away. If you choose an associate degree program with transferable credits, there is no reason why you can’t enroll in a bachelor degree program later on.
